On November 6, 2015, Professor Brian J. Edwards of University of Tennessee-Knoxville has visited Jiangsu University. He visits the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and will give lecture to the master course and doctor course students on fluid dynamics in biofilm and kinetics and thermodynamics in crystallization. He will also do researches herein on the molecular dynamics simulation and molecular diffusion in drug controlled release. The total time is ca. one month. Today, he gave a report entitled as “Composition Dependency of the Flory-Huggins Interaction Parameter in Polymer Blends: Structural and Thermodynamic Calculations”. Teachers and students from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering attended the report. He mainly talked about atomistic simulations of isotopic blends based on realistic potentials to study Flory-Huggins interaction parameter without making any prior hypotheses. After the report, he answered academic questions mentioned by teachers and students. Besides, the questions about studying abroad and how can they go to study in University of Tennessee-Knoxville have been stated carefully.
Prof. Edwards is a guest professor of our university. He received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1986, and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 1991. He joined the Faculty of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville as an associate professor in 2001 after several years of research at the Institute for Polymer Physics at ETH-Zurich in Switzerland. He was promoted to the rank of professor in 2009, and currently serves as the associate department head, since 2006. Prof. Edwards’ areas of expertise lie in the theoretical modeling of polymeric fluids and in atomistic simulation of flowing polymers, specifically via nonequilibrium molecular dynamics. Up to now, he has published about 150 papers and 10 academic books.
