1.         Material Science:including crystal structure- and morphology-controlled synthesis of nanomaterials; assembly of nanomaterials; construction of capsules
2.         Chemical Engineering: including heterogeneous catalysis by nanometals, nanooxides, and traditional catalysts; chemical industrial process development
3.         Synthesis of Fine Chemicals: including synthesis of medical intermediates and biomaterials.
 
Research Experiences
1.         Synthesis and characterization of nanosized metals and biomaterials
Morphology-controlled synthesis of silver, nickel, copper, and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles by using organic modifiers with different functional groups.
Characterization of nanometals and hydroxyapatite by HRTEM, SEM, SAED, FTIR, XRD, and UV-vis. Analysis of the morphology, crystallinity, and crystal structure of nanomaterials.
2.         Heterogeneous catalysis by nanomaterials with different morphologies and structures
Selective hydrogenation of aromatic-structured fine chemicals by using nanometals with different crystal structures and morphologies as catalysts.
Transesterification of acylglycerol catalyzed by nanohydroxyapatite with different crystal structure as solid catalysts to produce biodiesel.
3.         Selective oxidation of alkenes
Selective oxidation of cyclopentene and cyclohexene catalyzed by nanosilver to fine chemicals, such as cyclohexanone, cyclohexanol, and cyclopentene oxides.
4.         Surface coating
TiO 2 coating of mica and kaolin to functionalize natural materials. Preparation of metal and oxide capsules by template inducing technique. SiO 2 or Al 2O 3 coating of TiO 2 powders to enhance their pigment performance.
5.         Extrafine inorganic materials
Synthesis of titanate whiskers, such as potassium tetratitanate, potassium hexatitanate, and potassium octatitanate.
