On the morning of March 22, 2013, Dr. KinShing Chan who is a full professor of Chinese University of Hong Kong together with Dr. Zhen Shen a full professor from Nanjing University visited Jiangsu University. The Associate Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Dr Weihua Zhu emceed the lecture.
To the first,Dr. Chan, gave a lecture titled “Catalytic Hydrogenation of Carbon-Carbon Sigma Bond by Water”. He introduced the utilization of Rhodium porphyrins as catalyst to active the carbon-carbon σ-bond hydrogenation with water. The highlight catalysis mechanism was promising potential application to solve energy and fuel problems. The research interests of Dr. Chan covered many research field include transition metal cross-coupling, activation of carbon-carbon and carbon-hydrogen bond, green chemistry, etc. He has published over 125 papers on J. Am. Chem. Soc.,Organometallics and so on.
Later, Dr. Shen gave another report “Visible/Near IR Optical molecules”. In her lecture, she introduced a new type fluorescent probe, BODIPY and aza-BODIPY, synthesis, physical chemistry properties and application to PDT for cancer. Dr. Shen focuses on functional coordination chemistry, materials chemistry included synthesis, optical properties and electrochemistry of high conjugated porphyrinoid compounds, NIR multiple functional molecule fluorescent switches, probes. She has published about 100 papers on Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.,Chem. Comm. and so on.
